Future Smartphone: MIMO Antenna System for 5G Mobile Terminals

In this article, an inverted L-shaped monopole eight elements Multiple Input Output (MIMO) antenna system is presented. The multi-antenna designed on a low cost 0.8 mm thick FR4 substrate having dimensions of 136×68 2 resonating at 3.5GHz with 6dB measured bandwidth 450MHz, and inter element isolation greater than 15 dB gain 4 dBi. proposed design consists parasitic strips extending from the ground plane. These shorted stripes acted as tuning stubs for four side chassis. This done to achieve desired frequency range by increasing electrical length antennas. A prototype fabricated, experimental results show good impedance matching reasonable within range. MIMO performances, such envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) mean effective (MEG) are also calculated along channel capacity 38.1bps/Hz approximately 2.6 times that 4×4 system. Due its simple shape slim design, it may be potential chassis future handsets. Therefore, user hand scenarios, i.e. both single dual studied.
